Exhaust Gas Aftertreatment

Another main part of our research activities deals with the complex field of (automotive) exhaust gas aftertreatment.

Effective emission reduction is only possible by a systematic “overall understanding”. The interaction between combustion, sensing / metrology and catalysts functionalities needs to be considered from different perspectives.

We are working in the following fields:

  • Novel exhaust gas aftertreatment systems / novel catalysts
  • Novel exhaust gas sensors (see “gas sensors”)
  • On-board-diagnostics
  • Novel concepts for in-situ-diagnostics (concerning catalysts or the whole exhaust pipe)

Our facilities in this area cover a range from the complete process-chain for manufacturing exhaust gas sensors, different possibilities for catalyst characterization in synthetic exhausts up to components testing in real exhausts including analytics or metrology.

The topics in the field of exhaust gas aftertreatment are also supported by simulation and modeling.

Our customers are notable OEMs and –suppliers, but also companies in the field of industrial exhaust gas aftertreatment.
